    Questions?

    Frequently Asked Questions

The training duration varies by program (6 to 13 weeks). Application submission and processing by the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC), formerly the VBA, sits on top of that and varies by application. We help by making sure your application is complete and correct before it goes in.

The minimum depends on the class you're applying for: at least 3 years working under a registered building practitioner, across a minimum of 3 projects, for Domestic Builder (Unlimited). Domestic Builder (Limited) classes such as carpentry each have their own experience requirement — ask and we'll confirm what applies to you. You should be actively working or have recent experience in building/construction. We assess each applicant individually based on their background and circumstances.

Yes. Application support is included in every program. We help you prepare your portfolio, gather technical references, complete the required documentation, and check everything before submission. The Carpentry Licence (DB-L) course covers application guidance and portfolio support; its Application Prep Package add-on adds complete form assistance, reference coordination and submission checking.

The exam is reference-based: you work with the Building Act, the Regulations, the NCC and the relevant Australian Standards rather than answering from memory. It covers building regulations, Australian Standards, building codes, construction techniques, site management, and business knowledge, and it tests how fast you can find and apply the right answer. Our programs include 600+ practice questions and answers (450+ for the carpentry course) to build that speed.
